Karen began her journey as a trained modern jazz dancer and instructor until a horrific motorcycle accident changed the course of her life. After the accident, she noticed that simple physical tasks were causing her pain, so she later sought the help of medical professionals to address her migraines, neck, back, and shoulder pain, as well as the loss of grip strength in both hands. Three years of MRIs, x-rays, testing, multiple rounds of PT and OT, as well as prescription medications were of no help as she navigated treatments parenting three young children. It wasn’t until a neurologist diagnosed her with Cervical Myofascial Pain Syndrome that she finally got answers, and prescribed John F. Barnes Myofascial Release therapy with two trained PTs. Karen walked away pain-free just six months later, with a new lease on life. Karen’s desire to help others live pain-free existences, and educate about the benefits of MFR resulted in her getting both her CT and NY PTA/L licenses, as well as her LMT license, and ultimately she became both a student and expert instructor of the John F. Barnes MFR therapy which she’s now been practicing for over twenty five years. Her areas of expertise include: Myofascial Release expert level practioner with a background in spinal & joint mobilization, muscle energy, Mulligan techniques for the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, & sacrum, neurologic & orthopedic strain/counterstrain, cranio sacral therapy, vestibular therapy, Kinesiotaping techniques, PNF, Functional NDT (adult & pediatric), manual lymph drainage, interdisciplinary rehabilitation management of neurological dysfunction, aquatic therapy, and applications of home care as appropriate.
